The Kia Telluride SUV crossover made its big and bold U.S. debut in spring 2019 as a 2020 model. The brand’s largest model so far was designed at Kia’s design studio in Irvine, Calif., and built in West Point, Ga.

Designed specifically for the U.S. market, the Telluride was freshened for 2023 with a mild styling redesign and new tech features. The Telluride face was redesigned with a new grille, headlights, and front bumper. Tech updates included a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and an optional smart power liftgate. With new off-road enhancements, Kia added the more rugged-looking X-Line and X-Pro trim levels.

All 2024 Telluride trim levels, in front- or all-wheel drive, now get the distinctive amber daytime running lights.

Industry insiders say the Kia Telluride is due for a redesign imminently, likely to include a hybrid variant. It is unclear whether the Telluride will be designated a 2025 model year with sales beginning in January 2026, but it could also be a 2026 model year.

RECALLS

From the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:

  • In March 2024, Kia recalled more than 427,000 Tellurides from the 2020 to 2024 model years due to rollaway risks. The vehicles could roll away when placed in Park if the driver failed to engage the parking brake. It was determined that improper assembly of the intermediate shaft and the right front driveshaft could cause unintended vehicle movement. Kia first identified this problem in April 2022, and by then, Kia had found 16 vehicles with this problem.
  •  In June 2024, Kia recalled more than 462,000 Tellurides from 2020 to 2024 model years due to potential fire risk. The issue relates to powered front seat motors that could overheat. Misalignment of the powered-seat controls could get stuck and can feed constant power to the seat motors. According to recall documents, Kia was aware of one driver seat fire incident, six confirmed incidents of melted components under the seats, and incidents of interior smoke.
